Black Hole
Aug 25th, 2003 by Ree Joy
bleaker than emptiness
gapes open that spring
where mystic fire had seemed
so undying
like heart-pumping dreams
the night before
subsiding
without a whimper at
the light of day
the soul cries out
one more time
like a heart coughing
up one last defiant breath
of air
how many wrongs
does it take to make one
right
how many vermillion
sunsets going home
does it take to greet
one sunrise
cleanly without
despair

I do not think it is our place to greet sunrise with freshness.
I always thought morning dew comes to cleanse before the sun’s first rays bring to us a new day… more fresh and brand new than the first.
It is life’s gift to us.
(the astrophysics-obsessed part speaks)
Ah, but Ree, black holes radiate as well. And those of them that dance and whirl and spin may conceal portals to other universes in their hearts.
Not emptiness, maybe. Instead, infinite weight.
Ah, to be always seeing possibility in every gasp for air everyday. To see beauty in a compost heap — what a divine way to overcome this growing weightfulness of life.
Gifts of insight. Gifts of infinite weight…
May we ever assign them their proper value. May we be ever worthy of the giving….
Ree, a single thought of grief coming from a man of multitude emotions is what i’ve envisioned “Black Hole” evoked.Sorrounded with life and yet blinded by grief. For him I wrote:
Precious gift eternal of life ethereal
Callous abandonment embracing hate…
Passionate destruction seethe hearts all
Black pit of abstraction befall man’s fate.

If a man truly listens
would he heed the preciousness
of his beating heart? Would he
seek a larger reality?
If a man truly heeds
would he seek to love himself
better? Would he, hungering more, hunger
less, to challenge the burning
candle?
If a man truly seeks to know
would he, intransigent driftwood
that he is, fear the tides? Would he overcome
his own nebulousness, bearding fate
at eternity’s door?
If a man truly is more, and life
greater than dew at sunrise,
ought not he to grieve
more?
Hey Tito! I didn’t get the thing about black holes…. I’m confusered! I’m bored as you can see. Do you know how boring keyboarding is? By the way, I’m in class right now…. Gotta go the bell just rang!
